The Cavalier Connection

How can UVA defeat West Virginia? Let’s take a closer look

While the season opener for the Virginia Cavaliers against NC State was supposed to be the first big test of the season, the Wolfpack was no match for UVA, as the ‘Hoos won 34-8. Virginia then played easy Norfolk State team a couple of weeks later, which leads us to now, the next “Test” of 2026. The Cavaliers meet the Mountaineers at Bank of America stadium in a neutral site game.

Virginia meets West Virginia for the first time since 2002, that game was also a neutral site game in Charlotte where Virginia would be victorious, 48-22. The Mountaineers are coming off of a similar slate to Virginia, only slightly weaker. WVU beat Coastal Carolina week one and then blew out UT Martin last week. West Virginia was blowing out Coastal Carolina in that first game but let off the gas in the second half which led to the Chanticleers making a comeback, but it was too little too late, West Virginia winning 31-24.

What does West Virginia like to do? What are the keys to victory? Check out this film session featuring Kevin Crawford from Onceahoo and I breaking down the Mountaineers and what you can expect Saturday:
