Olivia Mcghee, Guard, is returning having played only 4 games last year when an injury ended her season. In the 2024-2025 season, she played in 31 games averaging 7.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game along with 33% from 3-point range. Her biggest impact came on defense where she regularly gave opponents issues and put up 26 steals to go with 11 blocks.
Breona Hurd, Forward, has chosen to stay as well. She played in 23 games last averaging almost 12 minutes per game. Her points and rebounds average aren't staggering but she did rack up 14 blocks in her limited minutes. She uses her 6'2" frame well but was often seen out of position at times. Excited to see her 3rd year at UVA.
Joining the Cavaliers this year will be Mary-Anna Asare, a 5'8" guard graduate transfer from VCU. Her season was cut short last year due to injury but her 2024-2025 stats show her offensive firepower! She averaged 16.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 37.3 percent from the 3-point line. I'm glad she decided to travel down I-64.
Coach Roussell also brings in a 4-star high school prospect in Erica Gribble. She's a 5'11" guard from Greensburg, PA that balled out for Greensburg Central Catholic. She was named a first-team All-State in 2024 and 2025. She averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 steals per game her senior year. She has a long list of accomplishments coming to UVA.
I haven't heard any updates on Forward, Sa'Myah Smith. She entered the portal with the rest of the team of the firing of Coach Mox. She played in 23 games last season, averaging almost 8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. She had an up and down season, dealing with an injury and the loss of close family members. I hope she plans on returning, if not, then I wish her the best.
I think coach Roussell is going to do accomplish great things in his tenure as a Wahoo!
@hokiehater all great information. Lots of roster spots to fill. If they give a 5th year to some, maybe another portal window opens and we have even more options.

Looks like we got a commitment from transfer forward, Caterina Piatta. The former Gator follows coach Kelly Rae Finley from Florida. She started 33 games in her freshman year and has international experience playing for her home country of Italy. The 6'4" forward will fit nicely with the other additions.
