It is that time of year again where we are getting to the heart of summer. The MLB is in full swing, the All-Star Break is here and with that also brings the MLB Draft. The draft may not draw the same attention as the NFL Draft but it is still exciting to see so much potential for the future. That being said, there is potential for some hopeful Hoos to hear their names called this year just like other former players such as Kyle Teel, 2x All-Star and beloved Cavalier Ryan Zimmerman and our very own 2025 All-Star selection Andrew Abbott.

First you have the obvious guys in the Top 250 MLB Prospects such as Henry Godbout (#72) and Henry Ford (#73), Aidan Teel (#184) and Chris Arroyo (#193). Now I, being the Cavalier fan I am, would love to see Ford drafted early enough that he goes pro and never sees the field for Tennessee. Henry Ford has been one of my favorite players to watch and the way the kids flock to him when they let the kids on the field at The Dish it’s easy to see he is a fan favorite. It’s like the Clint Eastwood baseball movie “Trouble with the Curve.” When Henry hits the ball, you can just hear the difference between him and everyone else. Best of luck kid and keep that light in your eye and your passion for the game.

Then here is one person that I have not mentioned above. This guy is a fan favorite and also a former guest of The Cavalier Connection, Jay Woolfolk. This guy was in the Top 250 last year and came back to the program betting on himself. Unfortunately, he has fallen just outside the Top 250 but the progression is there. Stand by for stats — Jay posted a 2.87 ERA his Freshman year, 2.91 Sophomore year and was so successful he bounced from reliever to starter in 2024 and this year he was a full-time starter. Yes, the ERA crept up as a starter but the big things are he has control, decent speed, can eat innings and misses bats. I feel he has the potential to carve out a role with someone. You do not bet against someone betting on themselves.
