Calling It Now: Final Score Predictions for UVA’s Season Openers
To preface this, I want to acknowledge that I’m on the more optimistic side of UVA football fans. I believe that they could do a lot more damage across the CFB landscape than many people expect. With that being said, let’s get into my final score predictions.

Game 1 - Coastal Carolina
UVA’s season, and home opener is against Coastal Carolina this year. Last year, UVA came away with a 43-24 win. Of course in today’s era of college football, both teams are going to look, and perform differently. However, I don’t think that will change the result very much. I predict UVA will come away with a 45-21 win, improving on the routing they managed last year.
Game 2 - NC State
The second game of the season sees UVA go to NC State for a non-conference game. The last time UVA faced NC State was in a home game 2 years ago. That game was close, seeing Brennan Armstrong’s return to Scott Stadium, but unfortunately was lost in the end after some costly penalties and a big kick return by NC State. I think the Cavaliers get revenge this season, albeit likely a close one, with a 31-24 win.
Game 3 - William & Mary
Game three sees the first FCS game on UVA’s schedule with William & Mary coming to town. These games are usually one-sided, and I don’t think this year will be any different. I believe Tony Elliott’s squad fully breaks out in this game, with 2 games under their belt to grow their chemistry. Trell Harris will continue a breakout season in this game, and the UVA offense will show its potential by scoring 50 points for the first time under the Elliott administration. I predict a 53-17 win to cap off the first three games of UVA’s schedule.
As mentioned, I believe this UVA offense will be a lot stronger than many expect, providing Des Kitchings with the running game he’s been trying to establish over the past three years, and Trell Harris and Kam Courtney leading the way in the passing game. I also think the defense will have a few issues to begin, but nothing that will seriously hinder performance, and they quickly show that they’re going to be one of the best secondaries in the ACC, even after the loss of Jonas Sanker.

In the next part, I’ll be covering Stanford, Florida State, and Louisville. Stay tuned.
